Vyshyvanka Day

Today is Vyshyvanka Day – a celebration of Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage and centuries-old tradition of embroidery.

The vyshyvanka is more than a beautiful garment — it’s a symbol of national identity, resilience, and resistance. Ukrainian embroidery dates back to pre-Christian times, with patterns and symbols passed down through generations. Each region of Ukraine has its own distinct style, colors, and meanings — often believed to protect the wearer and reflect their ancestry.

Vyshyvanka Day began as a movement and has since grown into a global celebration. Ukrainians around the world wear their embroidered shirts with pride to honor their roots and show unity — especially in the face of war and ongoing cultural erasure.

Today, we wear our vyshyvanky to preserve our history, celebrate our culture, and stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
